Philosophy

iLEAD is an acronym for the types of disciplines used to deepen our relationship with God. It is imperative at this point to say that the spiritual disciplines will not make you in any way more spiritual. All the spiritual disciplines do is help you make time and attend to your relationship with God. So what is iLEAD?

i

The small “i” refers to the role played by iLEAD. Jesus promised that He would send to us the “Paraclete,” which means the one who is called to one’s side. In various scriptures, Jesus identified Him as the one “who would lead us into all truth,” “our teacher,” “our guide” and “our counselor.” If God the Holy Spirit has come to give us these gifts, the last thing iLEAD’s people need to do is get in the way. We simply want to be your companion during the journey and, when needed, helping you navigate the way.

L

“L” is for listen. Usually when we say that we have prayed, it means we have talked to God and asked Him to give us what we think we need. Let me ask you; do know some people that treat you that way? The only time they reach out to you is when they need something. Are they what you call your friends? Jesus calls us “friends” and friends always have a two-way conversation. Friends also have a relationship of reciprocity, a fancy word for wanting to do what the other wants. The “L” disciplines allow us to hear God who loves us and wants to communicate with us.

E

“E” represents engage. The disciplines within this category help us to be involved. Through engagement and awareness, we see God’s presence, or the lack of it, in our life experiences. Through engagement, we seek to be aware of Christ’s presence with us throughout our day whether at work or at play.

A

“A” stands for assist. These disciplines help us in our awareness of joining God in His work and refers to Christ example of prayer - “Your kingdom come, Your will be done.” We are all members of the Body of Christ and we each have a role to play in sustaining the body. Many of us have not even discerned what that role is, much less employed the gifts provided by God the Holy Spirit. By assisting our brothers and sisters we fulfill our purpose in life.

D

“D” represents doing. As James reminds us, we seldom look in the mirror without touching up our appearance. In the same way, insights do not become revelation until they are accompanied by action. Doing is about putting the insights we gain through reflection into action.

“Mr. Hannah, I was a guest in attendance at today's meeting of the Scottsboro Rotary Club and enjoyed your talk on leadership. I was with Ron Bailey who greeted you as you arrived at Western Sizzlin'. Just to maybe jog your ...” read more
